Tigray Interim President Getachew Reda has stressed the urgent need for the repatriation of IDPs from Western Tigray. He made this call during a meeting with French Ambassador to Ethiopia, Alexis Lamek, in Mekelle. The visit aimed to assess the progress of the Pretoria Cessation of Hostilities Agreement.

President Getachew urged the federal government to remove obstacles preventing the return of displaced people. He also raised concerns about the continued presence of Eritrean forces in parts of Tigray, particularly Irob. According to President Getachew, their presence poses an existential threat to minority communities.

He emphasized the importance of political dialogue and accountability on unresolved issues from the Pretoria agreement. The Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR) process was another focus of the discussion. President Getachew stressed that disarmament must reflect the current security situation.

Ambassador Lamek echoed the urgency of fully implementing the Pretoria accord for lasting peace. He also announced that a delegation would visit French-supported projects in Tigray soon. President Getachew expressed gratitude for France’s continued support in Tigray’s rehabilitation efforts.
