ADDIS ABABA — The Ethiopian media fraternity is in mourning today following the announcement of the passing of Ato Aman Fissehatsion, the visionary founder and CEO of EBS TV.

EBS TV officially confirmed that Mr. Aman passed away today, February 11, 2026 (Yekatit 4, 2018 E.C.), after receiving medical treatment for an illness. He is widely regarded as a pioneer and a father figure in the Ethiopian private media sector.

A Legacy of Connection and Culture

Aman Fissehatsion was a trailblazing entrepreneur who left an indelible mark on the modern media industry. When he founded EBS TV in 2008, the concept of private satellite broadcasting in Ethiopia was still in its infancy. His primary vision was to bridge the gap between Ethiopians living abroad (the Diaspora) and their home country, fostering a deep connection through culture, language, and current affairs.

Today, thanks to his vision, EBS has grown into a massive institution with millions of viewers worldwide, serving as a primary stage for Ethiopian art, culture, and entertainment.

Transforming the Industry

Mr. Aman was not just a leader for his own station but a fierce advocate for the growth and rights of the entire Ethiopian broadcast sector. His contributions include:

• Architect of Ethiosat: He played a critical role in the formation of Ethiosat, rallying Ethiopian channels to migrate from foreign satellites to a unified orbital slot (NSS-12). This move significantly saved foreign currency for the nation and ensured high-quality broadcasting reached the public.

• Leader of the AEB: As a founder and chairperson of the Association of Ethiopian Broadcasters (AEB), he worked tirelessly to organize private television stations, helping them secure their rights and grow collectively.

A Mentor and Philanthropist

Beyond the boardroom, Aman was known as a compassionate leader who opened doors for countless others. He is credited with introducing modern talk shows and entertainment formats to Ethiopian television, creating employment and platforms for hundreds of journalists, artists, and media professionals.

Colleagues and friends remember him as a kind-hearted soul who quietly supported the needy and impacted many lives through his philanthropy and personal mentorship.

Kulu Media extends its deepest condolences to his family, the entire EBS TV staff, and the Ethiopian media community.

Ato Aman Fissehatsion’s legacy of innovation, resilience, and service to his country will never be forgotten. May he rest in eternal peace.
